Newcomers Tractor Trailer village tour - date to be confirmed

New to the village?  Been in the village a little while but not been on one of our infamous village tours?  Then why not sign up to our next tour on our stand at the Newcomers Tea Party on Sunday 4th February in the Memorial Hall at 4pm.  Tours guided by 'expert' village residents with knowledge of historic buildings and areas of archaeological and ecological interest.  If you are unable to make the tea party please contact the society by phone 832453 (Debbie Bright) or by email to (Meg Holland).

Professor Peter Spufford

Professor Peter Spufford died peacefully at home on 18th November 2017.  His funeral will take place on Saturday 24th November at 11am at St Mary & St Andrew's Church, Whittlesford.  All are welcome to attend and the join the family for refreshments and to share memories at the Guildhall after the service.

Prof Peter Spufford has resigned as Chairman after many years of excellent leadership of the Whittlesford Society.  In recognition and appreciation of his dedication and commitment, the Society have elected Peter as a Honorary Vice President with immediate effect.

As part of the centenary celebrations a special session, presented by Alicia Gurney, Head of Masterplanning and Craig Murray, Curator of IWM Duxford, has been organised for the Whittlesford Society.   This will include presentations about the Masterplan vision for the site, alongside covering some of the lesser known history. George Rusted

The Committee of the Whittlesford Society was deeply saddened by the recent death of life Vice-President, George Rusted. His funeral was held on 28th December at the URC and was well attended by many from the village. George made a unique contribution to the local community, especially to Whittlesford and the Whittlesford Society over many decades. The Society would like to express sympathy to his family and loved ones at this sad time.

World War 1 Project - The Whittlesford 100

The Whittlesford Society is currently undertaking a project to research the 100 village men who went to war. There is an update on progress and a request for further information on some of the soldiers.
